What this site counts

This site counts how its posts are read so I can tell what lands. It does that itself, in its own database, with no cookies, no advertising and no analytics company in between.

What is counted

  • A view, once per reader per post per day.
  • Whether a reader reached the end of a post.
  • Stars and share clicks on a post.
  • Which kind of site sent the reader, such as LinkedIn or a search engine, from the referring site's name only.

How a reader is recognised

For one day only. Your IP address and browser are combined with a random key that is replaced every day, and only the scrambled result is kept. Your IP address and browser are never stored. Once the day is over, the next count deletes that day's key and turns its per-reader entries into daily totals, so the site cannot tell that you came back.

What is stored on your device

Only what you choose. If you pick light or dark with the switch, your browser remembers it. If you star a post, your browser keeps a random token so it remembers your star and you can take it back, and the site stores only a scrambled copy of it, different for each post. Signing in to comment sets the cookies sign-in needs.

What is not counted

Crawlers and bots, and anything without JavaScript. There are no profiles, no tracking across sites and nothing is sold or shared.
